Here at Weetabix one of our core values is 'We Are One Team' – ensuring we’re all working together to drive results. In our latest blog, Master Data Steward, Ann Ryan tells us about how her role within the IT team involves working closely with many different teams throughout the company.
What’s your role?
I am part of the Weetabix IT team, fulfilling the role of Master Data Steward. However I also work closely with other teams throughout the business too. Many departments within the business use the data I input, so a major part of my role is ensuring the data is accurate and up to date at all times. I really enjoy being a part of the wider Weetabix team!
How long have you been at Weetabix?
I’ve been at Weetabix for two and a half years now. When accepting the role the first reason was of course, Weetabix! The second reason being I love all things data, so it was no-brainer for me to combine the two.
What’s it like to work at Weetabix?
Weetabix is a fantastic business to work for, I feel so lucky to be here. The team are so welcoming and there’s always a positive energy that inspires me to be the best I can.
The ‘People Survey’ promotes honest and effective feedback to ensure Weetabix employees are satisfied whilst working at the company. To enjoy the summer sunshine, we’re even allowed to finish at 2pm on Fridays during July and August. There are other perks too such as free breakfast - an endless selection of cereals, bars and drinks!
What do you most enjoy about working at Weetabix?
The people are great, the work is interesting and the benefits are awesome. I find the flexi time benefit particularly helpful. My manager is very understanding and supportive which means a lot to me.
What opportunities have you had whilst at Weetabix?
As a Master Data Steward, I have learned a lot about Microsoft AX, ERP systems and the deeper meaning of the importance of Master data. I’ve been on interesting training courses provided by the company. The most favourite course I’ve attended was The Energy Project. I’ve learned a lot about how people work, react and act based on the circumstances and environment as well as how to bring your energy levels back up when they slump! I am now embarking on learning SQL and I am excited about this opportunity.
Anything you’d like to share with us about your role?
My role is not just ‘Data Input’, I have a lot so many departments relying on information being up-to-date and correct, it requires a lot of care and thought, and of course accuracy. SOx compliance and audit requirements have been a new area of learning for me and required extra effort, but it has been rewarding. I have also learned a lot about processes and Standard Operating Procedures as a result. I have also fully trained other Master Data Stewards!
What do you love doing outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my family. I am a massive animal lover and have a gorgeous 3-year-old cat. My partner and I are motorcycle lovers and visit Europe via the tunnel at Folkestone. We have been to places like Paris – riding around the Champs-Elysees on a motorbike is quite the experience! We both love photography and have captured some great shots with the places we have visited. My other big love is art and I do a lot of drawing with animals being my favourite subject!
