Job description

Weetabix is officially the UK’s favourite breakfast cereal, Alpen the number one muesli and our new Weetabix On The Go drinks are category defining. The success of our brands and our business is firmly founded on the people we’re lucky enough to have working here. We’re looking for an ingredients buyer to come in and help us secure the best ingredients to help us continue to grow. You’ll be looking after a number of key categories with full accountability for all the expenditure.

It’s a really exciting time to be involved here especially as we’ve just announced £30 million worth of investment into the business. The creation of new production capacity by 2018 will significantly raise volumes to match rising sales of our brands both at home and overseas. The Role

We’re looking for an experienced ingredients buyer to join our fab team. It’s a chance to create and develop sourcing strategies, taking full ownership from source to consumer across the range of ingredients within the allocated categories. This is an amazing opportunity for someone to join Weetabix and make a real difference to the business through creating cost improvements and value for the bottom line.

You will be joining a team that wants to be the industry number one and who are empowered and enabled to deliver the very best they can with the freedom to deliver in the best way they can. They’re real change agents and driving change is a key part of everything the team do. Whilst they are super focused on progression and upping the ante in the business, they genuinely do like to have fun whilst doing it! 

As you settle into your time at Weetabix, we’ll be looking for you to deliver on a number of key initiatives with a plan. By the end of your first three months in the business, you’ll have established key stakeholder and business relationships and have really started to understand the categories, the contract status and picked up the various projects in the pipeline.  

Once you’re up to about 6 months in role, you’ll have started to understand the key drivers and issues/opportunities affecting your categories and concluded some initial contracts for additional cover, and started to identify and explore other strategic suppliers and solutions for sourcing within your defined categories. 

By the time you get to 12 months, you’ll have your feet fully under the table as an established buyer and will have strategic source plans in place for the key categories in order to drive best value for Weetabix over the short/medium and long term.

You’ll also be ready to hopefully decide your next career step within the business and with both line manager support, senior leader coaching and a great L&D team, you’ll be looking to fill any gaps that you may have to get you there. There’s a number of different internal moves that are potentially available for you including moving into a: Co-Manufacturing, Indirects, Promotion or even a secondment or move outside of the team if that’s where you’d like your career to go.

What we’re looking for

A buyer with a proven track record of delivering savings through negotiation, category strategies and supplier relationship management, ideally gained in a food manufacturing or FMCG business. Combined with your strong technical experience, you will also possess strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills in order to hit the ground running and make a significant difference and contribution to the company.
